Grass and mud stains can often be found on sportswear and team uniforms, but also after spending an afternoon outside it may happen to find them on our garments, shoes or bags. In effect these are very common inconveniences, not only for children.
Facing this kind of problem related to garment stain removal makes part of our everyday life, but with the right tools it will be possible to eliminate them quickly and effectively.
Why are grass stains difficult to remove?
Grass stains are among the most difficult ones to remove because besides the green halos caused by chlorophyll we must eliminate also the residues of soil and mud.
These substances have a similar composition to natural fibres, so they penetrate into fabric fibres more easily, especially the ones made of cotton and wool, by sticking to fibres and colouring them.
For this reason it is a bit easier to eliminate grass and mud stains from synthetic garments.
GUIDE FOR STAINING
In order to obtain an excellent result is crucial to carry out a range of preliminary operations. This will allow us not only to eliminate grass stains without any problem, but also to avoid damage or discolour garments by dint of insisting on the affected area!
• PROMPTNESS
Act promptly on the stain is the best thing to do for sure. If possible, soak the garment in cold water so that the stain doesn’t fix on the garment. If you are not at home by rinsing the garments you will eliminate at least the first residues, by promoting the consequent detachment from dirt.
• AVOID HOT WATER
In the early stage it is not recommended to use hot water because it tends to fix the stains on the garment.
• PRETREATMENT
If we have to deal with a dry grass stain it is necessary to use a specific enzymatic based or oxygen based pretreatment product so that it is possible to efficiently act on the affected area before the washing cycle.
• SPECIFIC DETERGENT AND SPOTTING AGENT
Since they are stubborn stains we recommend to use specific detergents with a strong staining action and in case of need even a liquid spotting agent to add during the washing cycle.
DR. CONEDERA’S ADVICE
In order to eliminate stubborn stains such as grass and mud stains it is ideal to use specific enzymatic based products. In fact enzymes act quickly by degrading the most hostile stains, even at low temperatures!
In case of very old or dry stains we recommend the use of oxygen based products, to eliminate and oxidize chlorophyll that has been attached to the garment.
